The nature and extent of original sin
From birth, sinfulness is an innate part of them as an inner condition of the soul (Psalm 51:5). The moral and spiritual nature of people is totally depraved-there is no part of them that is untouched by sin. And not one of them is untouched sin (1 Kings 8:46; Eccles. 7:20; Romans 3:23).
The nature of sin
Sin is anything and everything in attitude and action that opposes God and his standard of righteousness-its is most succinctly captured in the Bible’s command against idolatry (Exodus 20:3; Mark 12:30).
The effects of sin
Because of their fallen sin nature (Romans 5:12), people are alienated from God and from others. When people engage in sin, they become guilty of violating God’s law and thus make themselves liable to the punishment of death (Romans 6:23).
